Rubber Seals: An Important Component of All Industrial Sectors

To put it in generic terms, rubber seals are components used in various machinery for the purpose of preventing leakages, containing pressure and excluding contamination where two systems join. Available in different profiles such as O-ring, hydraulic, X-ring, square-cuts etc., these seals are made by manufacturers with the minutest attention to detail, ensuring these are fit for all static as well as dynamic applications. Rubber seals are one of the most common materials used, with applications spanning a wide range of industries.

Although the exact details about when these were first started being used widely remain sketchy, some references can still be found. Notable amongst them being the patent received by the inventor of O-ring on May 12, 1896 and by Danish born machinist Niels Christensen in 1891 for his invention of air brake system for streetcars (trams). 

The usage of rubber seals continued to grow as years passed by, specifically increasing during world war 2. Afterwards, rubber seals continued to gain prominence, with increase in their usage being observed even now.
